Discovering Rome in winter

Just a few steps away, Rome and its exhibitions

  • Pontormo at the Scuderie del Quirinale

    Until 7 February 2027, from 10.00 to 20.00

This major exhibition, the first monographic exhibition dedicated to Jacopo da Pontormo (1494–1557), offers a unique opportunity to explore the work of the most brilliant of the ‘Florentine eccentrics’ of the Italian Mannerist period.

With over 130 works – including paintings, frescoes, altarpieces and drawings – on loan from leading Italian and American museums, the exhibition offers visitors the chance to discover the personality and legacy of this exceptional artist, a pupil of Andrea del Sarto and Rosso Fiorentino and himself the teacher of Bronzino and Naldini.

Curated by Cristina Acidini Luchinat, the exhibition takes visitors on a journey through the universe of the Mannerist style, with its incandescent colours, a world that still speaks to us today.

  • Roman Marbles at the Antiquarium of Villa Albani Torlonia

From 18 September, the Antiquarium of the Scuderie at Villa Albani Torlonia is expanding its exhibition space. The new space will be inaugurated with the exhibition ‘Roman Marbles’, curated by Carlo Gasparri and dedicated to the variety of polychrome marbles used in the Roman world, as well as to the memory of the scholar Raniero Gnoli.

Twenty sculptures from the Torlonia collection have been added to the exhibition, five of which have recently been restored: amongst these is the monumental Torlonia Bowl, or Medici Bowl, crafted from a rare type of breccia verde from Wadi Hammamat in Egypt. The exhibition uses these artefacts to reconstruct the economic and cultural geography of the Roman Empire.

  • The Fayum Portraits at the Ara Pacis Museum

    Until 2 May 2027

The result of an exceptional collaboration with the Cairo Museum and other prestigious institutions such as the Louvre and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Ara Pacis Museum is opening the exhibition ‘The Power of the Portrait: From Rome to Fayum’ – a fascinating journey through portraiture in ancient Rome and Roman Egypt, bringing together two worlds that are only seemingly distant.
